Logan visual artist Mary Elizabeth Barron’s eye-catching exhibition Lace at Logan Art Gallery hit a temporary bump during the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions but was certainly not derailed.

It will now be part of the gallery’s new round of exhibitions when the facility re-opens at 10am tomorrow (Saturday, June 13).

Mrs Barron, from New Beith, is a dedicated gallery volunteer who makes spectacular hangings made from plastic bags using bobbin lacemaking techniques.

“The extra time has actually been a bonus as it’s allowed me to finish more items,” she said.

“I hope people will visit the gallery and enjoy being out in a mindful way.”

Entry to the gallery will be limited to 20 people at a time. Social distancing rules apply.

The Gallery re-opening is among a number of Logan City Council facilities that will open the doors again this weekend or increase the number of patrons they can host under the Stage Two easing of restrictions.

Facilities open to the public again include:

  • The Logan Recycling Market opened today but strict crowd control and social distancing rules apply.
  • Council gym facilities (Logan Metro, Logan North, Mt Warren and Cornubia Park) re-open tomorrow but bookings must be made a day in advance. Walk-ins are not permitted at this time and other restrictions apply.
  • Beenleigh, Logan North, Gould Adams Park and Logan West aquatic centres open from tomorrow. Bethania and Eagleby aquatic centres remain closed for winter.
