Gas main hit at Maddingley

Several CFA crews are on scene at a hazmat incident in Maddingley near Bacchus Marsh this afternoon.

CFA was called to the incident involving a ruptured gas main on Cosgrove Drive at 2.42pm today.

It’s believed a medium pressure gas main was hit by an excavator.

Firefighters are isolating the area for fire prevention until the gas company arrives on scene.

CFA issued an Advice message to local residents advising them a door knock is underway to evacuate the immediate area.

Local residents have also been advised to keep all windows closed.

The gas is travelling in a south west direction from Cosgrove Drive.

The leak is expected to be sealed by 4.30pm.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area.

CFA has six vehicles on scene supported by FRV crews.
