Geelong Ready To Cheer On Superstar Matildas

Geelong’s coup of securing the superstar Matildas for a December match will be a huge boost

for the region’s hospitality, accommodation and tourism industry.

The Matildas will play a friendly match against Chinese Taipei at GMHBA Stadium on

December 7.

It will be the much-loved national team’s first match in Geelong for seven years and the first

since Kardinia Park’s capacity has been boosted to 40,000.

Mayor Sullivan personally wrote to the Matildas late last year to invite them to play in Geelong.

City of Greater Geelong Mayor Trent Sullivan

The match will be an opportunity for the City’s sporting fans to see their heroes up close and in person.

This coup cements Geelong’s status as a proud and passionate sport-loving community.

Like all Australians, our community has been proud and excited about the Matildas journey which is why we have been so keen to get them playing in Geelong.

Geelong has a thriving girl’s and women’s soccer competition and the Matildas have inspired a new generation since their success at last year’s World Cup.

I have no doubt that the Geelong community will fully get behind the Matildas and the match will be fantastic for our hospitality, accommodation and tourism businesses in the region.
