Locals and visitors to Bulcock Street, Caloundra, can now stay hydrated from a piece of public art.
Unitywater and Sunshine Coast Council recently installed an O Fountain, serving both a practical and aesthetic purpose in the popular street.
Unitywater Executive Manager Customer and Community Katherine Gee said the O Fountain was part of their Back to Tap campaign.
“Getting Back to Tap is about reducing single-use plastic water bottles by filling up reusable bottles with tap water,” she said.
“It’s not only cheaper, it helps reduce plastic waste and ultimately, prevents it from ending up in our waterways and oceans.”
Local artist Thom Stuart painted the fountain. His design, Coastal Banksia, reflects one of the feature species planted in the new streetscape which was officially opened this month.
Division 2 Cr Tim Dwyer said council was delighted with the installation.
“The O Fountain is a creative and attractive way for the community to drink water when they are out and about, as well as helping our environment by cutting back on unnecessary waste,” Cr Dwyer said.
“We have also worked with Unitywater to install two other refill stations at Kings Beach and one in Ocean Street, Maroochydore as we work towards our vision of the Sunshine Coast being Australia’s most sustainable region – healthy, smart, creative.”
