Students from across Bass Coast Shire are set to be the big winners as the brand-new Wonthaggi senior campus continues to take shape thanks to an historic investment by the Andrews Labor Government.
Premier Daniel Andrews and Member for Bass Jordan Crugnale today joined students, teachers and workers to view construction works at Wonthaggi Secondary’s new $32.7 million senior campus.
The new senior campus is located on a purpose-built site next to the Bass Coast Specialist School with outdoor learning areas, a central plaza, a library and specialist facilities for visual arts, graphics, materials technology and science – helping deliver the community’s dream of a dedicated education and learning precinct.
In partnership with Bass Coast Shire Council, the campus is set to feature a new multi-sport highball stadium that will be available for community use with three competition-grade basketball courts, a canteen and change rooms.
The stadium will provide a much-needed home for the Wonthaggi Amateur Basketball Association, which has 400 members, no home facilities and has been campaigning for new facilities for years. It will also be used by 150 indoor netball players in the local area and meet growing demand for modified versions of the game.
The recent Victorian Budget 2019/20 continues the Labor Government’s record investment in the Education State with local schools such as Cowes Primary, Lang Lang Primary and Koo Wee Rup Primary sharing in funds for upgrades.
The Labor Government is also delivering the funds for the promised new junior secondary campus for students across Phillip Island, San Remo and the Waterline, set to open in 2022.

Under the Labor Government’s school building boom, 100 new schools will open over the next eight years, ensuring every child has a great local school and a great start in life. The Labor Government has invested $5.6 billion in delivering more than 1,400 school upgrades and supporting almost 5,000 construction jobs.
The new Wonthaggi Secondary senior campus is expected to be completed in December 2019, and will open to students in Term 1, 2020.
