The much-anticipated upgrade of Youngs Crossing has reached a construction milestone, with the first of 83 pre-cast concrete girders now in place to support the new flood resilient bridge.
The Youngs Crossing upgrade is one of the biggest road infrastructure projects to be delivered in the City of Moreton Bay. It will construct a new four-lane bridge west of the existing road crossing as well as three new signalised intersections and improved pedestrian and active transport connections.
The project spans more than 1 kilometre from Protheroe Road to Dayboro Road, with the new bridge being approximately 200 metres long.
The Youngs Crossing Road transport corridor is a critical link in the South East Queensland road network that currently experiences significant flood and congestion safety challenges.
The project is funded with $51.6 million from the Australian Government and City of Moreton Bay contributing the balance for delivery.
The Queensland Government has also provided an additional $15 million for intersection upgrades at Dayboro Road, adjacent to the new bridge.
The concrete girders – up to 27 metres long – will arrive intermittently over the next five weeks via Dayboro Road through Old Petrie Town. In line with regulations, each girder will be transported under escort during the night, before being craned into position during the day.
