Doing a final spring clean for the year, or looking for a secret Santa bargain?

Drop off your unwanted items at the City of Swan’s Recycling Centre – Bullsbrook (RCB), and pick up a bargain at the tip shop while you’re there.

The RCB accepts a range of materials including mattresses, white goods, green waste and furniture plus a wide selection of general household items, books and DVD’s.

Materials such as mulch and metals are separated so they can be recycled or reused for another purpose, and many items which are in good condition are sold at the tip shop at bargain prices.

City of Swan Mayor Kevin Bailey said the tip shop keeps reusable recyclable items away from landfill by offering them back to the community at a low cost.

“By reducing landfill, the City is saving ratepayer money and reducing our environmental footprint.

“You never know what hidden treasure you might find at the tip shop – right now there’s a kayak, a buggy, lawnmower, high chair, fish tank and dog kennel,” he said.

“Over the last year the RCB and tip shop have recycled over 5,000 tonnes of material, saving the carbon equivalent of 6,376 tonnes.

“This represents an economic saving of $926,642 in landfill costs – these savings can be reinvested to improve services across the City.”

Pearce Ward Councillor Patty Jones said the RCB makes recycling more accessible, and complements the pre-booked verge collection system.

“Recyclable goods can be dropped off free of charge for City residents, which reduces the need for further investment in additional staff and equipment, as the City manages the impact of population growth,” she said.

“And with Northlink due for completion soon, travel time from surrounding suburbs to Bullsbrook will be reduced significantly, making the trip even easier.”

The RCB and tip shop is free to all City of Swan residents, with a small fee applied to non-residents who would like to dispose of unwanted items.

Items at the tip shop are typically valued from $1 upwards, with any revenue offsetting the operating cost of the facility.

You can check out the tip shop at the Recycling Centre – Bullsbrook at 121 Stock West Road. Don’t forget to bring your identification and proof of address.
