The Assistant Minister for Mental Health and Suicide Prevention, the Hon. Emma McBride MP will be travelling to Italy this week for the fourth World Health Organization (WHO) Global Mental Health Summit.

The summit will run across two days on 13-14 October, following World Mental Health Day on 10 October.

The summit provides an opportunity to share Australia’s recent experience in responding to the mental health impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic and to learn from like-minded countries.

The Assistant Minister will attend a Trilateral meeting with her Canadian and New Zealand ministerial counterparts to discuss shared priorities in mental health and suicide prevention.

Preceding the summit, the Assistant Minister will also hold discussions in the United Kingdom with mental health experts from the University College London, Institute of Health Equity, Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neurosciences at Kings College, as well as meeting with an NHS delegation to learn of novel and pioneering models of care, that may help us address similar mental health challenges in Australia.
