Gold Stealing Detection Unit arrest

Detectives from Gold Stealing Detection Unit have charged a 30-year-old man as a result of their investigation into stolen gold.

It is alleged the offences occurred between July 2015 and June 2019 whilst the man was employed as a mill reliner for a company who service the mining industry. His duties required him to travel to several gold mines and during his job he came into contact with pieces of gold trapped under the mill liners and loose pieces of gold within the mill. These pieces of gold are generally flattened into small nuggets during the processing stage and can be easily picked up by workers performing the reline services.

It is further alleged during the process the man stole 67.5 ounces of gold which he sold to various Pawnbrokers and gold buyers in Perth. He was paid over $81,000 for the gold.

The 30-year-old man from Camillo has been charged with Possession of Stolen or Unlawfully Obtained Property. He is due to appear before the Perth Magistrates Court on 30 July 2019.
