Lotus Glen Correctional Centre welcomed 14 new custodial correctional officers to the front line of public safety after graduating at a ceremony held in Mareeba today.
The officers proudly accepted their responsibility to keep the community safe through the humane containment and rehabilitation of prisoners at the Lotus Glen Correctional Centre.
Commissioner Peter Martin APM was pleased to be on hand to welcome the new custodial correctional officers.
“The safety of the community is very important to me and I thank all officers, including the graduates, for their commitment to joining and serving a top-tier public safety agency and boosting the safety and security of the centre and the North Queensland community.” Commissioner Martin said.
“The graduating officers completed the rigorous Custodial Officer Entry Program which focuses on best-practice approaches, including correctional centre practices, behaviour management and places great emphasis on safety including situational awareness and communication, and de-escalation techniques.
“These officers will be meeting the high standards we expect of all our officers within Queensland Corrective Services as they continue to develop their skills.”
Member for Cook, Cynthia Lui said Queensland Corrective Services played a vital role in keeping the public safe.
“With the comprehensive training the new graduates have received through the Queensland Corrective Services, I am very optimistic about their ability to meet whatever challenges lie ahead,” Ms Cook said.
“Not only is community safety boosted, but it’s also about delivering jobs in the local community in the Far North.”
