Graduation – Recruit Constable Squad 144

Northern Territory Police will welcome 26 new Constables from Recruit Squad 144 tomorrow.

The new constables will be taking up duties primarily in Alice Springs, Katherine, Tennant Creek and Yulara.

During their six-month course, Recruit Constable Squad 144 completed units in defensive tactics, driver-training, search and rescue and firearms. The course also included legislative training, cultural awareness and engagement, and addressing domestic and family violence.

Commissioner Jamie Chalker APM said it has been a big year for recruitment within the Northern Territory Police Force.

“Across the nation, there is a large recruitment drive for police officers. The NT Police Recruitment team has pushed through a difficult year with COVID-19 challenging the way recruitment drives are done.

“Despite these challenges, 11 squads have graduated this year. This includes six Constable squads, four Auxiliary squads and one Aboriginal Community Police Officer squad, totalling 245 new members to the force.

Recruit Constable Squad 144 will graduate tomorrow afternoon in Darwin before joining members on the frontline for the Christmas and New Year period.

Over the past two years policing duties have changed, said Commissioner Chalker.

“COVID-19 has added another layer to our duty of care not just for the community, but also our frontline services. These new recruits join that journey with us tomorrow and will continue the mission to serve and protect.”

The graduation will be live streamed from 5pm on the NT Police, Fire and Emergency Services and NT Police Recruitment Facebook pages.
