  • A $160,000 Australian Government grant to the Infant Nutrition Council will develop market access strategies for Australia’s infant formula and toddler milk drink industry.

Minister for Agriculture and Northern Australia David Littleproud said the funding will provide a basis for growing the dairy trade, and in particular sales of infant formula and toddler drinks, to markets in South-East Asia, Latin America, and the Middle East.

“We know our dairy is the best in the world, and now consumers in other markets can also reap the benefits,” Minister Littleproud said.

“This funding will help the industry investigate new markets for their safe and nutritional and World-class products – that is good news for Australian dairy farmers and processors.”

Infant Nutrition Council Chief Executive Officer, Jan Carey, said through reports and workshops, the project will develop market access strategies and intelligence.

“The grant will help us to identify opportunities under current and upcoming bilateral and multilateral trade agreements and diversify into new markets,” Ms Carey said.

“The opportunity to expand markets will ultimately benefit the broader dairy industry, local manufacturers, and ingredient suppliers.”
