Shopfronts in need of a spruce up may be eligible for funding of up to $5000 under a grants program that is helping to improve streetscapes across Hobart.

The City of Hobart’s Shopfront Improvement Grants program provides dollar-for-dollar funding to businesses wishing to make physical improvements to their facades.

Lord Mayor Anna Reynolds said the aim was to enhance the amenity of Hobart streets by encouraging shop owners to invest in their frontages.

“If we work together to create streetscapes that are smart and vibrant, it makes our city more attractive for shoppers and visitors. That’s a good thing for our small businesses,” Cr Reynolds said.

“For any business that is willing to invest in the presentation of its shopfront, the City is prepared to match that investment dollar-for-dollar, up to $5000 in grant funding.

“We are particularly looking for creative, unique and innovative ideas for shopfronts that are designed to improve the streetscape of the area. We are also keen to see projects that restore and refresh heritage facades.”

In 2018, the program supported improvements to four businesses, including the painting of a façade by a local artist to improve an area that was affected by nearby demolition works.
