Grants To Rehome And Care For Our Precious Pets Opens

VIC Premier

Labor is ensuring more Victorian pets get the care they need and have the chance to find a new home.

Minister for Agriculture Michaela Settle opened Round 14 of the Animal Welfare Fund Grants today at Beyond Racing in Myrniong.

The $1.7 million grants round will help organisations across Victoria care for and rehome animals.

Funding will also support organisations providing animal relief facilities and services during emergencies.

Round 14 will provide grants of up to $100,000 for animal shelters, foster care networks and organisations promoting responsible pet ownership.

Not-for-profit and low-cost veterinary services can apply for grants of up to $200,000 to improve access to veterinary care.

Beyond Racing helps retired racehorses prepare for life after racing and has previously received more than $230,000 through the program.

The funding has helped upgrade its facilities and increase the number of horses it can rehabilitate and rehome.

It has delivered covered yards, a cross-tie area, an enclosed arena and a six-horse walker to support injury rehabilitation.

The Animal Welfare Fund Grants program has provided more than $16 million since 2014 to improve the welfare of companion animals across Victoria.

Applications close Monday, 2 November. For more information and to apply, visit agriculture.vic.gov.au
