Grass Roots Open Mic Competition returns to showcase local talent

Local musicians are being encouraged to take the stage, with registrations now open for the upcoming Grass Roots Open Mic Competition at Griffith Regional Theatre.

Presented by ArtFarm, in partnership with the Theatre, with ArtFarm, the popular competition will be held on Sunday 2 August, giving performers the chance to showcase their talent in a professional live theatre environment.

Musicians of all experience levels are invited to register, with the competition open across two categories, Under 21s and Open, ensuring opportunities for both emerging artists and more experienced performers.

ArtFarm director, Bonnie Owen, said, “We are looking forward to having the opportunity once again to work alongside and promote local artists. Grass Roots continues to play an important role in supporting the region’s music scene, helping performers build confidence and gain exposure in a professional setting.

She also said “Strong networking connections are built each year between participants which have proven to be long lasting and meaningful.”

Participants can perform original songs or covers, competing for a range of prizes that include mentoring opportunities, paid performance opportunities and recognition for both song writing and live performance.

Griffith Regional Theatre Manager, Margaret Andreazza, said “We look forward to Grass Roots every year as we discover new talent as well as enjoying performances from seasoned performers. Our audience have come to expect a great afternoon of music and I’m sure this year will be no exception”.

“Grass Roots is all about community, creativity and discovering local talent,” she said.

“We encourage anyone with a passion for music to register and take part, whether they are just starting out or already performing.”
