Preparing great Aussie seafood meals at home is ‘Easy As’ according to a catchy new industry campaign being supported by the Australian Government.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development Michael McCormack said Seafood Industry Australia’s year-long promotional blitz starts today with TV ads going to air.

“This campaign will raise awareness for a great cause, showing just how healthy, sustainable and delicious our seafood is – the best seafood in the world – and the importance of the industry to our economy,” the Deputy Prime Minister said.

“The Australian Government is proud to be right behind this history-making initiative – this is the first time our entire seafood sector has featured in a national marketing campaign.”

Minister for Agriculture, Drought and Emergency Management David Littleproud said the campaign would support Australia’s world-leading seafood industry during this important time.

“When Aussie families buy seafood sourced from Australian managed fisheries, they’re supporting best-practice fisheries management that keeps our oceans well stocked for future generations of seafood lovers,” Minister Littleproud said.

“We’re supporting jobs across our seafood industry. The hard work of Australian fishers has made our seafood the highest quality in the world.

“We have a proud track record of providing safe, sustainable and reliable seafood produce to markets at home and around the world.”

Assistant Minister for Forestry and Fisheries Jonno Duniam said encouraging more domestic consumption of Australian seafood was important for the industry’s survival and recovery through the COVID-19 crisis.

“It’s been an incredibly tough year for Australia’s seafood sector and they need our support,” Assistant Minister Duniam said.

“The seafood industry was the first and worst hit when export markets virtually shut down overnight at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Fortunately, every Australian can play a role in helping our fishers, and it’s as simple as eating some Aussie seafood. That’s a win-win for all of us.

“This campaign will support all sectors of the seafood industry, from fishers and processors, through to those in the food services sector, and it will provide a much-needed boost to ensure we have a strong, sector-wide recovery.

“We are incredibly lucky here in Australia to have the best seafood in the world. Australians can have the utmost confidence in the supply and quality of our locally produced, premium seafood.

“Make sure you do your best to buy Australian, to support the producers who are supporting all of us and enjoy some Australian seafood – it’s Easy As.”

Seafood Industry Council CEO Veronica Papacosta said SIA and its members would like to thank the Coalition for their support towards this campaign, and unwavering support throughout the pandemic.

“This campaign has been funded by the Australian Government under the $1 billion COVID-19 Relief and Recovery Fund, and is designed to bring a much needed sales boost to the entire Australian seafood industry supply chain as we recover,” Ms Papacosta said.

“The campaign is called ‘Great Australian Seafood, Easy As’ – and launches our industry brand similar to Australia’s other key protein and agricultural products.

“The 12-month campaign celebrates Australian Seafood, its ties to Aussie culture, and importantly encourages each and every Australian to eat more Aussie seafood.”
