A McGowan Government-funded project to drive innovation and start-ups in the Great Southern region is set to get underway.
BreakthruWA will deliver the Albany Innovation Project in partnership with WorkLinkWA, following a competitive expressions of interest process.
The project will encourage business innovation in Albany by providing designers, community organisations and businesses in the region with physical and virtual spaces to meet, work, learn, collaborate and thrive.
The project will receive up to $220,000 through the Regional New Industries Fund, which is helping build regional economies that are entrepreneurial, creative and technology-driven.
As stated by Regional Development Minister Alannah MacTiernan:
“Albany is at the heart of the Great Southern region and has a strong innovation base.
“This project will establish a collaborative workspace and activate other innovation spaces in collaboration with partners, deliver a mentorship program and provide seed funding to innovative projects to develop ideas.
“BreakthruWA have an established local presence, partnerships with local stakeholders and a commitment to working collaboratively with other organisations.”
As stated by Innovation and ICT Minister Dave Kelly:
“The McGowan Government is committed to diversifying our economy, including in the regions, to create new industries and generate more jobs.
“This project will deliver sustained benefits for the Albany entrepreneurial ecosystem and more broadly throughout the Great Southern.
“The project will also create a school-focused program that will be adopted by teachers for Year 5 curriculum.”
