Great Southern Tourism and Trade Partnership launched

  • Great Southern Tourism and Trade Partnership set to bring together Great Southern Development Commission, Austrade and Australia’s South West to drive local jobs
  • Expansion of the WA TradeStart Partnership to bring additional support to agriculture, food and beverage businesses
  • Work set to boost international exports, develop destinations, and evolve tourism products
  • A new strategic partnership has been launched today to help grow exports, trade and tourism in the Great Southern.

The Great Southern Tourism and Trade Partnership is a new initiative developed between the Great Southern Development Commission, the Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade), and Australia’s South West.

Agricultural, food and beverage exports will also gain additional resources through an agreement between Austrade, GSDC and the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development.

The Great Southern Tourism and Trade Partnership and the expansion of the WA TradeStart Partnership will strengthen the value and build the profile of the Great Southern region, building on key strengths in agrifoods and tourism.

Regional agrifood and beverage businesses will receive support to take their offerings to a global market, meeting the existing demand in major export markets for high-quality, safe and traceable premium products.

Long term the Great Southern region’s profile as a producer of premium products, destinations and experiences is expected to increase as a result of the co-ordinated efforts of the key partners.

As stated by Regional Development Minister Alannah MacTiernan:

“These partnerships are important initiatives for growing the unique advantages of the Great Southern region.

“Our agrifood and tourism businesses have done an incredible job during a difficult period.

“The co-ordinated efforts will help connect our hard-working businesses with eager buyers in international markets and increase the profile and prominence of the region’s natural assets and extraordinary tourism experiences.”
