Greater Bank donates 2500 trees to plant at Blackbutt Forest

Shellharbour City Council has partnered with Greater Bank to accept a donation of 2500 trees, as part of Greater’s 75 year anniversary celebrations.

BushCare volunteers, Greater Bank staff and council staff will plant the tree at Blackbutt Forest Reserve.

All the donated plants have been sourced, sown and grown by the Shellharbour City Council Nursery. Species include Guioa (native quince), Blackbutt, Forest Red Gum, Lomandra, thin-leaved stringbark, golden guinea vine and more.

Shellharbour Mayor Marianne Saliba said that the trees would assist in maintaining a healthy ecosystem for Blackbutt Forest.

“Blackbutt Forest is a 250-hectare reserve and the last remaining viable remnant of coastal plain forest in the Illawarra region. It is home to a diverse range of vegetation and wildlife, including many threatened species facing extinction,” Cr Saliba said.

“As the trees grow, they will provide food and shelter to help the ongoing protection of our city’s native wildlife,” she said.
