The Australian Greens condemn in the strongest possible terms Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s announcement that he plans to annex nearly a third of the Occupied West Bank should he win the Israeli election next week, said Leader of the Australian Greens Dr Richard Di Natale.
“Should Netanyahu have the opportunity to proceed with this plan, it will annihilate the peace process. This announcement is devastating for the Palestinian people, and for Israelis who want to live in a peaceful democratic state,” Di Natale said.
This is the sort of move that just a few years ago would only have been supported by the fringe right, yet Netanyahu has made it clear that he has been emboldened by the support of Trump’s White House.”
“Rather than shrinking into silence, the Australian Government should loudly condemn Netanyahu’sactions. Annexation is illegal under international law, just as Israeli settlements are. The Israeli Prime Minister should recognise that this craven attempt to win re-election will only further isolate Israel.
