Grey Lynn homicide: Police urge witnesses to come forward

Police investigating the murder of an 18-year-old man in Grey Lynn on Thursday are appealing for witnesses to do the right thing and come forward.

A scene guard remains in place at the Tuarangi Road property today and the scene examination continues.

Nearby roads have now been reopened, and the scene will be blessed today.

Police staff will be going door to door in the neighbourhood throughout the weekend, seeking CCTV footage and speaking to residents and witnesses who may have information.

Detective Inspector Glenn Baldwin says the three men who remain in hospital are in a serious but stable condition, and Police are hoping to interview them as soon as they are well enough.

He also says Police know there are more people out there with information to share.

“Police know there were a number of people present when the shooting occurred, and we need to speak with those individuals at the earliest opportunity. We invite them to make contact with us.

“The circumstances of this homicide are not limited to the events on Thursday night.

“We know there have been tensions at play between the groups involved, for some time, and any piece of information that might help us build a picture of what has occurred will be welcomed.

“It’s understandable that those living in the area will be feeling shaken and possibly unsure about coming forward to Police, but we’re telling you it’s the right thing to do – you don’t have to stand for this violence in your community.

“If you can help, we need to hear from you.”

Police would also like residents to check their properties and outbuildings, and if you locate anything out of place, please call us.
