Hamilton Park Homestead opens to visitors in Gundabooka National Park |

The historic Hamilton Park Homestead is now open to visitors within the spectacular landscapes of Gundabooka National Park, offering a unique outback accommodation experience on the banks of the Darling River near Bourke.

Situated less than an hour south of Bourke, Hamilton Park Homestead provides visitors with the opportunity to stay in a restored heritage homestead while exploring one of western NSW’s most culturally and environmentally significant national parks.

Hamilton Park was originally established by William ‘Alf’ Cock around 1900 and featured a cottage and garden overlooking the riverbank. The Edwardian-style homestead that stands today was relocated from Hope Street, Bourke, to Hamilton Park between 1918 and 1919, becoming the social hub of the property throughout the 20th century.

The homestead retains many original features and handcrafted details created by George Cock, including handmade gate latches and unique timber fittings that reflect the ingenuity and craftsmanship of the era.

The opening supports visitation to Gundabooka National Park and strengthens nature-based tourism opportunities in western NSW, encouraging visitors to experience the region’s rich cultural heritage, scenic walking trails and iconic outback landscapes.

The Bourke region holds deep cultural significance for the Ngemba and Baakandji peoples, with Gundabooka National Park home to important cultural sites, ceremony grounds and significant Aboriginal rock art. Visitors can explore the park’s renowned landscapes, including the Gunderbooka Range and Mulareenya Creek, while learning about the enduring connection of Aboriginal people to Country.

The four-bedroom homestead includes a large entertaining area, living room, fully equipped kitchen, bathroom facilities, ducted air conditioning and ceiling fans throughout the property.

Accommodation starts from $225 per night with a minimum three-night stay, including up to six guests. Additional guests are charged $20 per person per night.

Hamilton Park Homestead can accommodate up to 12 guests and offers a comfortable base for families and groups seeking an immersive outback experience.

Opening the Hamilton Park Homestead to the public forms part of ongoing efforts to improve visitor experiences across NSW national parks while protecting the region’s important cultural and natural values.
