Harmony Soiree on Today at Waterfront

NT Government

The Northern Territory’s largest celebration of cultural diversity and harmony, the Darwin Waterfront Harmony Soiree will be held today from 4-9pm.

There will be more than 15 community cultural stalls which will showcase their rich cultural heritage, along with 25 cultural groups performing.

The Territory Labor Government has provided $30,000 in funding to multicultural groups to participate, including $21,000 to Darwin Community Arts to coordinate the performance, as part of the 2021-22 Harmony Grants.

The event, which began in 2011, is organised by Territory Families, Housing and Communities’ Office of Multicultural Affairs in collaboration with the Darwin Waterfront Corporation, the Multicultural Council of the Northern Territory and Darwin Community Arts.

It brings together multicultural and community groups to showcase the Top End’s cultural diversity through entertainment, food and cultural items, while promoting social inclusion and cohesion.

Quotes attributed to the Minister for Multicultural Affairs, Ngaree Ah Kit:

“The Northern Territory’s strong commitment to multiculturalism is reflected in this event each year, which attracts much support from our community.

“The Darwin Waterfront Harmony Soiree has become a real highlight of my calendar, and indeed, the whole of Darwin calendar, each year.

“I speak on behalf of Territorians when I say we are proud that such vibrant multicultural communities and people from all over the world choose to make their home in the Northern Territory.

“Today’s event is a chance for community members to come together, learn about the Territory’s diverse cultures, and the celebration of our unique heritage.”
