Have a say on Reserve names in Ryde lga

NSW Geographical Names Board

The Geographical Names Board is seeking community feedback on a proposal by Ryde City Council and Landcom to name two reserves in the suburb of Macquarie Park.

Tirriwan Reserve is located on the corner of Halifax Street and Wicks Road and the proposed name commemorates a local Wallumattagal Aboriginal identity Tirriwan, aka magpie, who was discussed in a journal entry by Marine Lieutenant Ralph Clark in 1790.

Campbells Common is located adjacent to Jarvis Circuit and the proposed name commemorates Governor Lachlan Macquarie’s second wife Elizabeth Campbell who was also mother to his children, Jane and Lachlan.

Chair of the Geographical Names Board Narelle Underwood said feedback is being sought on the proposed names.

“It is important that place names reflect the character and history of the local area and community,” Mrs Underwood said.

“We want to make sure everyone has an opportunity to provide their feedback on the proposed names.”

Details of the proposal can also be viewed and submissions lodged on the Geographical Names Board’s website.
