The Geographical Names Board is seeking community feedback on proposals by Camden Council to name seven reserves.

Chair of the Geographical Names Board Narelle Underwood said feedback is being sought on the proposed names for reserves located in the suburb of Oran Park.

“It is important that place names reflect the character and history of the local area and community,” Mrs Underwood said.

“We want to make sure everyone has an opportunity to provide their feedback on the proposed name.”

Brooking Park is proposed for a reserve located approximately 550m north-west of the Dransfield Drive and Brahma Street intersection, in commemoration of the late Frank Brooking, a former mayor and leader of volunteer organisations within the community.

Dawson Park is proposed for a reserve located approximately 100m north-west from the Dransfield Drive and Brahma Street intersection, in commemoration of the late Honourable Lionel John Charles Seymour (John) Dawson-Damer, a former prominent motor racing identity and owner of the Oran Park homestead and stables.

Julia Reserve is proposed for a reserve located on the corner of Peter Brock Drive and South Circuit, in commemoration of the late Julia Perich who, with her husband Kolombo Perich, established a dairy farm, now known and operating as Leppington Pastoral Company.

Kolombo Reserve is proposed for a reserve located on the corner of Oran Park Drive and South Circuit, in commemoration of the late Kolombo Perich, a successful dairy farmer, whose descendants now operate Leppington Pastoral Company.

Singer Park is proposed for a reserve encased by Austen Circuit and seeks to honour the Singer Car Club, a group of volunteers who assisted with construction and maintenance work involved in building the Oran Park Raceway.

Titan Park is proposed for a reserve located on the corner of Skaife Street and Harvey Street, extending south to Dan Cleary Drive. During the operation of Oran Park Raceway, NSW Police conducted police dog training at the track. The proposed name is to honour ‘Titan’, a police dog who was killed in the line of duty in 2004.

Whiteman Park is proposed for a reserve located approximately 400m north-west from the Dransfield Drive and Brahma Street intersection, in commemoration of Charles Thomas Whiteman, a former mayor and long-term business owner in the Camden area.

Details of the proposal can also be viewed and submissions lodged on the Geographical Names Board’s website.
