Tasmania’s extraordinary first responders will be honoured at Hawthorn’s Emergency Services match on 13 August in Launceston.
Minister for Police, Fire and Emergency Management, Felix Ellis, said the AFL game would be a great opportunity for Tasmanians to show up and say thank you to the people who keep us safe every day.
“We owe a debt of gratitude to our police, firefighters, emergency services and paramedics for the fantastic work they do and the commitment they have to their local communities,” Minister Ellis said.
“We’re pleased to stand side-by-side with representatives of the Hawthorn AFL Club, which is dedicating this important match to Tasmania’s emergency services.
“The Rockliff Liberal Government is committed to supporting our first responders andemergency services workers and volunteers who are always there in times of need, keeping Tasmanians safe. We are proud of this public recognition.”
The game on 13 August will see Hawthorn take on the Western Bulldogs at UTAS Stadium in Launceston.
Tasmania Police, Tasmania Fire Service, Ambulance Tasmania, and SES Tasmania will each have a presence at the game, with community activations set up around various stadium entry points.
Minister Ellis said the support from Hawthorn for Tasmania’s emergency services would shine a light on the everyday heroes in our communities.
“We’re thrilled to again be able to thank and celebrate each and every one of our emergency services personnel on a national stage,” Minister Ellis said.
“It’s a great chance for Tasmanians at the game to quite literally stand up and applaud our first responders for their efforts.
“We’re looking to use the game as a recruitment opportunity for new career and volunteer first responders to join our services.”
