A hazard reduction burn is scheduled on Saturday, 13 April 2019 at Cabbage Tree west of North Richmond subject to weather.
The 50 hectare burn in Grose Vale and Grose Wold will be jointly managed by the National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) and the Rural Fire Service (RFS).
NPWS Manager Park Operations, Glenn Meade said: “”The burning program is scheduled to take advantage of autumn’s more predictable cooler weather, that help us to keep the burns at the right intensity to reduce bush fire fuels.
“About 30 NPWS and RFS firefighters will work on the blaze to help protect semi-rural properties in the area south of Kurrajong and west of North Richmond.
“To minimise smoke entering your home ensure you close windows and doors, remove washing from clotheslines and cover pools.
“We apologise for possible some smoke impacts in the area and ask motorists to drive with care and follow directions from firefighters.”
This work is part of the NSW Government’s $76 million package, over six years, to boost bushfire preparedness and double hazard reduction in the state’s national parks, where conditions allow. NPWS works closely with the RFS and other agencies on these burns.
