Hazard reduction burn in Marramarra National Park

The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) and the Rural Fires Service (RFS) is planning a hazard reduction burn in Marramuarra National Park starting Thursday 24 August 2023.

NPWS hazard reduction burn

The prescribed burn is within Marramarra National Park, Maroota and Laughtondale local government areas, north-western Sydney.

The burn will be bounded by Roberts Ridge Trail and Roberts Ridge Branch Trail in the west, Ashdale Creek to the south.

The prescribed burn is scheduled to commence from 10 am Thursday and is expected to be completed Friday, with further mop-up patrols to be completed by NPWS over the weekend.

Public access to the burn area will be restricted until it is considered safe.

Visitors are advised to check the NPWS Alerts webpagefor up-to-date information on closures as NPWS fire crews will continue to mop up and patrol the burn area into next week.

People with asthma or those who are susceptible to respiratory problems are advised to keep clear of the area or stay indoors.

Hazard reduction burns are essential to reduce bushfire fuel loads to help protect parks, neighbours and communities from future bushfires.

Smoke may affect the area and people with asthma or other respiratory problems are advised to keep clear of the area or stay indoors, close windows and doors, and follow their health plan.

People with known health conditions should sign up to get air quality reports, forecasts and alerts via email or SMS and check the RFS website for advice and for regular updates on planned burns.
