The McGowan Government has welcomed the announcement by Federal Labor to inject $110 million to improve health care for people across Western Australia.
The investment aligns with the McGowan Government’s commitment to putting patients first and, if Federal Labor are elected, will help deliver seven key new projects that will benefit the health and wellbeing of WA patients in a range of areas and locations:
- $12.8 million to replace Laverton Hospital, this is in addition to $4 million currently in the State Budget, resulting in total funding of $16.8 million;
- $25 million for 25 new palliative care beds in Perth’s northern suburbs based at Osborne Park Hospital;
- $18.2 million to build a health centre in Yanchep;
- $15 million for a clinical command centre at Royal Perth Hospital;
- $4 million to increase capacity at Albany Hospital Dental Clinic;
- $12.2 million to upgrade Collie Hospital; and
- $700,000 for a new mobile renal dialysis service in Halls Creek.
The new funding boost augments the work of the McGowan Government in improving the health care provided to all Western Australians.
As noted by Health Minister Roger Cook:
“I thank Bill Shorten and his team for recognising the health needs of Western Australians as a priority. These new projects ensure vital services are funded properly, delivering quality health care where and when it is needed.
“Over four years, the McGowan Labor Government will spend $37 billion putting patients first. We deserve a fair share from the Federal Government and today’s commitment of $110 million is testament that a Shorten Labor Government will recognise this.”
