Healthway grants to keep our kids active

  • $400,000 in Healthway grants available through the Physical Activity Innovation Program
  • Aimed at increasing participation in physical activity for adolescents and young adults aged 15-20 years.
  • The McGowan Government has today announced $400,000 in grants for innovative programs that will increase physical activity levels in Western Australia.

The Physical Activity Innovation Program, provided by Healthway, aims to increase physical activity levels of adolescents and young adults aged 15-20 years, those who face health inequities and those who don’t engage in regular physical activity or traditional sport.

The project must be flexible and meet the needs of the targeted individual and/or groups, and aim to make physical activity part of everyday life.

Local governments, sporting groups and community organisations can apply for grants of up to $100,000. For more information and to apply visit https://www.healthway.wa.gov.au

Applications close at 9am on Monday February 28, 2022.

As stated by Health Minister Amber-Jade Sanderson:

“We know that many adolescents and young adults don’t participate regularly in sport or physical activity.

“There’s also a significant decline in physical activity as they transition into adulthood because traditional sport may no longer meet their needs.

“Some of the grants last year include the Western Australian Cricket Association’s Daughter and Dads cricket program and a nature based walk ‘n’ talk app that targets girls aged 11-17.

“These grants will help create the innovative programs needed to engage young people in physical activity as part of everyday life now and into the future.”
