Meadowbrook residents, traders and users of Loganlea Road will benefit from a change in work schedules on a major health and well-being project.
The Loganlea Road Healthy Street project in Meadowbrook is designed to better connect Logan Hospital to nearby medical and retail precincts.
The project involves significant upgrades to Loganlea Road to improve pedestrian and cyclist access, enhance amenity, and stimulate investment within the centre, encouraging health and wellness.
Work, which began last month, has been conducted nightly from Monday to Saturday.
However, to reduce impact on weekend trade, work will now be carried out from Sunday night to Friday morning.
The contractor will also ensure that noisier construction activities are not done on consecutive day/night shifts.
Road construction will also be avoided during the week to prevent impact on traffic.
Economic Development Chair, Deputy Mayor Jon Raven said Council had listened to the concerns of residents and business owners.
“The Loganlea Road Healthy Street is a transformative project that will make Meadowbrook a leading health, education and wellness hub,” Cr Raven said.
“The economic benefits will be immense, and the works have been adjusted to minimise the disruption to businesses and residents.
“Council has listened and acted in line with community feedback so these new arrangements are a win for everyone.”
Division 6 Councillor Tony Hall supported Council’s approach to the upgrade works and said they would transform the area.
“Most of the business owners and residents in the precinct are excited about the changes that are coming,” Cr Hall said.
“However they have experienced some traffic disruption and undue noise as a result.
“I’m confident these changes have addressed their concerns and I commend Council for being proactive and listening.”
The project includes a wide, shared pathway for pedestrians and cyclists from Loganlea train station into the precinct and up to the Logan Motorway.
A new signposted pedestrian crossing will be installed across Loganlea Road between the Meadowbrook Shopping Centre and the Logan Hospital, increasing safety and connectivity.
Loganlea Road will be widened from four lanes to six in some sections and parts of the verge will be reclaimed to improve pedestrian safety.
The project will also involve significant landscaping to provide shade and enhance amenity, shade structures throughout, street lighting upgrades, street furniture, public art installations prepared by artists from the Logan area and CCTV upgrades.
The $3.6 million project is an outcome of the 2018 Meadowbrook Summit.
It is funded by Logan City Council and a grant from the Queensland Government’s COVID Unite and Recover fund.
Design of the project was supported by the Local Government Cycle Network fund.
The works are expected to be completed later this year.
