Hawkesbury City Council is calling on residents, businesses and community groups to help shape a more inclusive future, as consultation begins on its 2027–2030 Disability Inclusion Action Plan.
This is Council’s third Disability Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP) and aims to build upon the actions delivered under Council’s previous plans.
Through the DIAP, Council commits to fostering a community where everyone, regardless of ability, can fully participate in and enjoy the social, economic and cultural life of the Hawkesbury. The upcoming DIAP will further strengthen Council’s role in ensuring people with disability and diverse needs are supported to connect, engage and thrive.
Council is now seeking feedback from the community to better understand local challenges and identify opportunities to improve access and inclusion across the region.
The new plan will provide a clear roadmap for delivering practical improvements over the next three years.
Developed in collaboration with Council’s DIAP Working Group, it will focus on four priority areas aligned with the NSW Disability Inclusion Action Plan. This includes:
- Improving community attitudes and behaviours towards people with disability
- Creating more accessible and inclusive systems and processes
- Increasing employment opportunities and support for people with disability
- Building more liveable and inclusive communities
Council encourages residents to share their experiences and ideas by attending one of the upcoming community engagement events.
