Major Simon Sullivan, second-in-command at the 8th/9th Battalion, the Royal Australian Regiment (8/9RAR), recently organised the donation of household items to a national charity that supports veterans and their families.
The items, including furniture and kitchen appliances, were donated to the charity Wounded Heroes Australia, which helps former Defence members struggling with financial or emotional challenges.
Major Sullivan said the donation was an example of Army’s longstanding culture of service, teamwork and community support.
“This initiative reflects Army’s broader philosophy of service to the nation and community,” Major Sullivan said.
“The Australian Army is built around the values of people looking after people – whether it’s supporting our mates and veterans, or families within the broader community, there’s a responsibility to step forward where we can to make a positive difference.
“These are items that families genuinely need, particularly when they have to relocate and start again.”
Major Sullivan said soldiers understood the importance of supporting organisations that care for people beyond their military service.
Wounded Heroes provides emergency support to current and former Australian Defence Force members, as well as those facing homelessness, financial crisis or domestic instability.
