Heritage Council of WA looks for new members

  • Nominations now open for four positions on the Heritage Council

  • Nominations opened today for experienced and qualified individuals to become members of the Heritage Council of Western Australia.

    The Heritage Council is the State Government’s expert body on historic heritage matters. It comprises nine members, appointed by the Minister for Heritage, who have demonstrated knowledge of or experience in one or more fields outlined in section 14 of the Heritage Act 2018.

    The Council plays a key role in making recommendations to the Minister for Heritage on entries into the State Register of Heritage Places and advises decision-making authorities in relation to the development of these places. It also determines State Heritage strategy and policies.

    Four positions become vacant at the end of 2021. The Minister for Heritage is looking for enthusiastic applicants who are keen to make a substantial commitment in terms of time and expertise to help identify, conserve and ensure the sensitive development of the State’s heritage places. Appointments will be made for terms up to four years.

    Applicants from a diversity of fields and backgrounds with relevant skills and expertise are strongly encouraged to express their interest in this rewarding opportunity. The State Government is committed to working toward gender parity across all government boards.

    As stated by Heritage Minister David Templeman:

The Heritage Council plays an instrumental role in promoting the identification, conservation and sensitive development of cultural heritage places in Western Australia.

    “This is an opportunity to have a strategic role in the management of our State’s cultural heritage and I strongly encourage suitable candidates to throw their hat into the ring.”
