Hodgman protects Hickey’s quest for more cash

Tasmanian Labor
  • Parliament in chaos with Hickey and Hodgman
  • Liberals desperate to avoid questions regarding massive pay rises
  • Will Hodgman has shamefully blocked questions from Labor regarding Sue Hickey’s call for an $80,000 pay rise in Parliament today.

Leader of Opposition Business in the House of Assembly David O’Byrne said it was disgraceful that the Liberals were hiding from scrutiny.

“The Hodgman Government is one of the most chaotic and dysfunctional in Tasmania’s history,” Mr O’Byrne said.

“There are barely any Bills before Parliament and now Will Hodgman is running a protection racket for Sue Hickey.

“Will Hodgman can block a pay rise for Sue Hickey by demanding she withdraw her submission to the Industrial Commission, or by refusing to amend the legislation governing the salaries for parliamentarians. He is refusing to do either.

“Tasmanians deserve to know why a member of the Government is demanding a 40 per cent pay rise, when at the same time wages for everyone else aren’t keeping up with the cost of living.

“Will Hodgman’s desperate attempts to protect Ms Hickey are not good enough.

“While the Government gags debate, Labor will continue to demand answers.”
