Ballarat residents are invited to help shape the future of City Oval, with the City of Ballarat’s Draft City Oval Precinct Masterplan now on public exhibition.
Developed in partnership with local architects Morton+Co, the plan sets out a long-term vision to enhance the functionality, accessibility and amenity of the precinct while preserving its heritage significance.
It builds on recent investments at City Oval, including upgrades to the grandstand structure and internal changerooms, and provides a strategic roadmap to guide future improvements across the precinct.
City of Ballarat Mayor Cr Tracey Hargreaves said community feedback would play an important role in shaping the final masterplan.
“City Oval is one of Ballarat’s most treasured sporting and community venues, with a history spanning more than 125 years,” she said.
“This draft plan provides a clear direction for how the venue can continue to evolve while respecting its rich heritage and meeting the needs of current and future users.”
“Feedback from user groups and community members during last year’s engagement process has helped inform the draft masterplan, and I encourage residents to review the plan and share their feedback during the public exhibition period.”
Community members can view the Draft City Oval Precinct Masterplan and provide feedback through the City of Ballarat’s MySay page before Sunday, 30 August.
The masterplan will guide future decision-making and investment at City Oval, with any future upgrades delivered in stages, subject to Council budget allocations, heritage considerations and external funding opportunities.
Community members can also learn more about the proposals and speak with City of Ballarat staff at a drop-in session at City Oval Bowling Club, 1406 Sturt Street on Tuesday, 11 August from 4pm to 5.30pm.
City Oval remains one of Ballarat’s most significant sporting and community destinations. Since the late 1800s, it has hosted cricket, lawn bowls, croquet and Australian Rules football. Its 1898 grandstand is recognised as one of Victoria’s most elaborate surviving historic grandstands.
