How to recycle soft plastics

Did you know that many soft plastics (plastic that you can scrunch in your hand) takes up approximately 10% of your household rubbish bin space?

There is a great service called REDcycle available at participating Coles & Woolworth supermarkets where you can deposit soft plastics to keep it out of landfill and reduce the space in your rubbish bin. They recycle the plastic and turn it into products like outdoor benches and alternatives for timber posts. It is also being blended into road and footpath mixes.

Soft plastic can’t go into your household recycling bin because they get caught up in the recycling plant machinery.

REDcycle, accept a huge range of soft plastics such as

  • bread bags
  • frozen food bags
  • chip packets
  • bubble wrap
  • clean cat & dog food pouches
  • cereal box liners
  • confectionary bags
  • dry pet food bags
  • fresh produce bags
  • ice-cream wrappers
  • netting produce bag
  • pasta/rice bags
  • snap lock bags

Collect them at home and deposit them at participating Coles & Woolworth supermarkets. Aldi supermarkets are expected to also have soft plastics recycling bins available by the end of the year.
