Health Services Union
The Health Services Union has today resolved to disaffiliate from NSW Labor.
A meeting of the Union Council determined it was dismayed with NSW Labor’s recent performance and saw little prospect of improvement.
“Our Union is relentlessly member-focused. We no longer believe affiliation to NSW Labor represents value for money,” said NSW Secretary, Gerard Hayes.
“Recently we commissioned polling that tested, among other things, support for NSW Labor. We were deeply disappointed to see support for Labor had plummeted so far that fewer than one-in-four people were prepared to give Labor their primary vote.
“We felt it was in the public interest to release this polling to the media to spark the honest, transparent conversation needed to trigger a revival of Labor’s fortunes.
“Unfortunately the leader of NSW Labor responded with personal insults.
“We therefore have little faith that Labor is likely to improve its performance any time soon.
“This decision was made democratically and after careful consideration.”
Gerard Hayes abstained from this vote which was determined by workplace representatives including cleaners, paramedics, carers and allied health professionals.
