Easter veg bunny

If you’re on the hunt for a healthier Easter we’ve got some fun ideas that the whole family can join in with. This long weekend we’re focusing on finding some active experiences, enjoying food together and getting our craft on!

We wish you have a safe and hoppy break!

1. Put the ACTIVE into ACTIVities

There’s loads of options to get moving this long weekend. You can keep it Eastery if that’s your thing, or choose a theme that works for your family.

  • A treasure hunt! Keep it simple and follow some tracks, or go all-out with rhyming clues.
  • Stick to the back yard, or venture to a local park, rec centre or further afield to a National Park or Reserve
  • If you’re getting together with family and friends, throw in some active games like a cricket set or Frisbee
  • Start a family tradition, like a neighbourhood walk or a trip to the beach or pool
  • We’ve got lots of ideas about indoor and outdoor active play over here so you’ll be prepared for all weathers

2. Something a little EGG-stra

You know what never gets old at Easter time? Egg puns. And the best way to ensure there’s plenty of yolk material is to set up lots of eggs-periences. Last year for Easter we even wrote a whole blog egg-sploring egg recipes! Here’s some less edible, but still cracking great fun ideas
  • Paint hard-boiled eggs
  • Dye eggs with food dye or natural colourants
  • Egg-and-spoon races
  • The egg toss game (outside!).

3. Home-made chocolate treats

The basic principle is to choose a nutritious base and add a little flourish of melted chocolate – a little goes a long way! Here’s some ideas, but the sky is the limit!

  • Fruit dipped in chocolate (strawberries and banana slices are always a winner!)
  • Chocolate drizzled popcorn or roasted nuts
  • Banana muffins with some chocolate chips
  • Trail mix that includes some chocolate covered dried fruit or nuts
  • Homemade chocolate milk powder (milk powder + cocoa + cinnamon)

4. Fun gift ideas

Chocolates and sweets tend to be our fall-back “little gift” idea. Here’s some out-of-the-box ideas that will have more longevity (and fewer cavities!). Easter theming optional!

  • Pens, pencils, stickers and other stationery items
  • Temporary tattoos, toy cars, hair clips
  • Craft supplies like pom-poms, pipe-cleaners, felt and sequins
  • Yoyos, Frisbees, skipping ropes and hula hoops
  • A bunch of the Easter bunny’s favourite baby carrots, wrapped in a bow (only recommended for people with a sense of humour!)

5. Add some colour to your weekend

Remember to add some colour to your feasts this weekend in the form of fruit and veg. They make gorgeous centre-pieces, or you could even eat them! We’ve got loads of recipes and heaps of tips to get more fruit and vegies into your day.
