Hurstville Service Centre to be boosted by Medicare services

Hurstville will soon have better access to government services with Medicare and Centrelink coming together in the one location.

From Monday 27 April 2020, staff and services from the Hurstville Medicare Service Centre will co-locate into the nearby Hurstville Centrelink Service Centre, creating a one-stop shop.

Services Australia General Manager Hank Jongen said the co-location reflects the change in how people are choosing to interact with Medicare.

‘Now 99 percent of all Medicare claimed services are lodged digitally, there’s a significant decline in customers attending the Hurstville Medicare Service Centre,’ Mr Jongen said.

‘The demand for face-to-face Medicare services at Hurstville has not changed due to coronavirus.

‘While we’ve seen a great uptake in the use of digital services, staff at the Hurstville Service Centre will continue to provide face-to-face services to those who require more personalised or intensive support.

‘The health and safety of our customers and staff remains our highest priority and distancing measures will be in place for anyone visiting the centre.

‘It’s really important people ensure their details are up to date with Medicare, including their bank account details during this time’.

All Medicare related claims, changes or inquiries can now be done online or over the phone. This includes newborn enrolments, re-enrolments for people returning to Australia, linking Medicare cards to myGov and transferring people from one Medicare card to another.

Claims for common rebate items can be made through myGov in the Medicare online account, or using the Express Plus Medicare mobile app.

The Hurstville Service Centre will provide the full range of both Centrelink and Medicare face-to-face services, as well as supported digital services.

The centre will be open Monday to Friday, from 8:00am to 5:00pm.
