IAG ready to support customers in northern Queensland impacted by Tropical Cyclone Jasper

IAG, whose brands include NRMA Insurance, CGU and WFI is ready to support customers who may be impacted by Tropical Cyclone Jasper.

We have a dedicated Major Event Response Team in place 24/7, who work closely with our in-house Natural Perils team to ensure we’re well prepared to respond to the impacts of severe weather events and provide immediate support for our customers.

Our Natural Perils team has been closely monitoring the system, which crossed the North Queensland coast south of Wujal Wujal near Cape Tribulation last night as a category 2 system bringing large swells, heavy rain and the risk of flash flooding.

Intense rainfall will continue between Cape Tribulation and Cairns over the next 24-48 hours, with destructive wind gusts expected to impact regions from Wujal Wujal to Port Douglas.

Safety must remain the number one priority for North and Far North Queensland communities, particularly due to the risk of flash flooding due to the torrential rain. We urge the community to stay away from floodwaters, continue to monitor weather alerts and follow the directions of the emergency authorities and any evacuation orders.

NRMA Insurance Executive General Manager Claims Luke Gallagher said IAG is well-prepared to help its customers who may be impacted.

“We have extra claims consultants standing by to help our customers lodge their claims and provide immediate support such as temporary accommodation, if required.

“IAG’s Partner Repairers and Assessors have mobilised their teams to the impacted region and will be on the ground in the affected communities helping our customers once it’s safe to do so.

“We also have the materials and supplies to secure our customers properties to prevent further weather impacts. We’ve have 5,000 Make Safe Tarps to secure homes with damaged roofs – which are ready to be shipped into the impacted areas from Brisbane. Make Safe Tarping is specialised material that effectively wraps the roof, preventing further wind or rain damage.

“Tropical Cyclones, and subsequent flash flooding due to the heavy rain, puts lives at risk and have the potential to cause significant damage and destruction to properties and communities. We are urging people in northern Queensland to stay safe and to please contact us immediately if they are impacted so we can organise emergency support such as temporary accommodation, financial assistance and conduct emergency Make Safe repairs to properties,” continued Mr Gallagher.

“If you can’t call us, the best way to lodge a claim is online via our brands’ website and for NRMA Insurance customers, via the app.”

We will provide additional updates as the situation progresses.
