IMAGINARIA at South Bank extends Brisbane season for new School Holiday dates

IMAGINARIA in Brisbane

IMAGINARIA, the stunning immersive play experience based at South Bank that combines audio-visual art, mind-bending light installations, futuristic gaming and inflatable architecture, has announced it will remain in Brisbane until at least February 7, reflecting the new extended Queensland school holiday dates announced this week.

Incredibly insta-worthy and brilliant for all ages, from families with small children through to millennials wanting to escape the Queensland heat – or the rainy weather as the current case may be – IMAGINARIA is where technology and imagination collide. It’s at home in a purpose-built and enclosed playground next to the Queensland Maritime Museum at the top end of South Bank until February 7.

“Given the announcement this week that Queensland school holidays would be extended for another two weeks for prep to grade 10 students, IMAGINARIA will similarly extended its stay in the Queensland capital,” said Creative Director Nick Ennis.

“The team have thoroughly enjoyed welcoming visitors over this holiday period, with demand for tickets not wavering, and given the stormy weather Queensland is experiencing, it’s a great rainy day experience for all ages.”

Likened to being in a kaleidoscope of light, sound and wonder, the immersive experience features 10 jaw-dropping rooms – eight of which are brand-new and exclusive to Brisbane – that bring together the creative talents of architects, authors, audio-visual artists, future-thinkers, renderers and sound designers.

“IMAGINARIA builds a constant sense of anticipation. Each room is slowly revealed as you move through the space and a different atmosphere and mood is presented. You can play, chill, explore and engage at your own pace. There are chairs and lounges throughout the experience to encourage lingering when the moment feels right,” said Nick.

“Step inside, slip off your shoes and engage with AI projections, sensor-triggered LED waves, giant silk parachute canopies, cosmic gardens, an anti-gravity sunset, an electronic hall of mirrors and a digital wishing well that whispers your greatest desires. Explore the multi-sensory and interactive play space at your leisure with the experience taking anywhere from a 15-minute walkthrough to an hour-long immersion. IMAGINARIA is a celebration of imagination, technology and immersive play and its something the whole family can do together, or … it’s the coolest date experience around! More than 100,000 people in Melbourne visited when we opened in that city, and there were quite a few proposals!”

He said IMAGINARIA was for the curious. “Humans are always looking for the next thing; curiosity is hardwired into our DNA and it is what drives evolution. From fashion to food to adventure and entertainment, we’re interested in what’s around the corner and ‘Immersive Experiences’ are exactly that, and we’re seeing people embrace it in unprecedented numbers.”
