Tasmanians paying for 13 years of Liberal waste

Parliament returns this week after six weeks off, and the Liberals’ mess has only grown while they’ve been away.

Last week TT-Line reported a $723 million loss, with debt set to hit $1.15 billion. The old Spirits have lost half their value in a single year, and Tasmanians have already tipped in $506 million to keep the company afloat.

The new Devonport berth was meant to cost $90 million. It came in at $493 million and more than two years late.

While Tasmanians pay for that, the Premier is busy doing deals for the well-connected. He’s leasing a basketball arena to a billionaire for less than a family pays for rent in Glenorchy and rolling out the red carpet for data centre developers without rules to protect Tasmanian power bills.

Two Liberal ministers have already lost their jobs over the secret legal fees saga, and Tasmanians still haven’t been told the full story.

Somebody must pay for all of it, and under the Liberals, it’s Tasmanians.

After 13 years of the Liberals, Premier Rockliff has put Eric Abetz in charge of cutting jobs and services to pay for their waste.

Eric Abetz is cutting 1,700 jobs. He’s cutting $700 million from health. He’s sacking TAFE teachers and cutting courses. And he’s cutting support for students with disability and complex learning needs, a week after the Education Minister said it wasn’t happening.

Labor will use every sitting day to hold the Liberals to account for their waste, and for the cuts Tasmanians are suffering to pay for it.
