Fawkner Highway Patrol have impounded a p-platers car overnight after the driver was caught nearly 60km/h over the speed limit in Essendon Fields.
Officers first spotted the vehicle on the Tullamarine Freeway driving at a fast rate of speed about 9.50pm.
The BMW coupe was clocked travelling 139/km/h in an 80km/h zone before the car was intercepted by police.
Police impounded the car for 30 days at a cost of $878.50.
The 21-year-old male driver from Docklands is expected to be charged on summons with driving at a speed dangerous.
