Improving lives of Tasmanians

Jeremy Rockliff,Premier

Despite the shorter working week, our Liberal team is getting on with the job of delivering for all Tasmanians.

This week, we have delivered key initiatives to improve the lives of Tasmanians in the key areas of health, housing, infrastructure, community services, and helping our most vulnerable, right across the State.

This includes:

  • Ensuring small businesses will receive even greater support and representation over the next three years by awarding grants of up to $30,000 to eight regional chambers across Tasmania;
  • Opening water sales for the 24,500 mega-litre Tamar Irrigation Scheme, marking another important step towards construction;
  • Opening a fourth round of the COVID-19 Business Impact Support Program to support those Tasmanian businesses facing the ongoing impacts of COVID-19;
  • Recruiting additional paramedics for the Huonville ambulance station that will see fully qualified paramedic crews on duty 24 hours a day, seven days a week;
  • Delivering a new defibrillator to the Huonville PCYC, as part of our $500,000 Community Automatic External Defibrillator Fund;
  • Launched a community football support package to target volunteers, coaches and umpires statewide;
  • Announced an expansion of the Launceston Women’s Shelter to add 15 self-contained one, two, and three-bedroom units and associated facilities, including a multi-purpose centre, laundries and a children’s playground; and
  • Providing disaster assistance, in conjunction with the Federal Government, to help local governments and primary producers recover from the impacts of flooding and severe storms in central and southern Tasmania in October, November and December 2021.

We are also continuing to manage the COVID-19 pandemic, and as we head into winter, it is important that Tasmanians continue to roll up their sleeves and get their vaccination or booster if it’s due, to keep yourself and the community safe.

And in line with the winter plan we announced last month to manage COVID-19 and the flu this year, we continue to urge Tasmanians to make sure they get their flu vaccine from GPs and pharmacies, particularly those with younger children who have not experienced a flu season.

I had mine on Tuesday, and it was quick, simple and easy – so please, with the temperature already dropping, make sure you get yours as soon as possible.

We will continue doing all we can to provide the essential services Tasmanians expect and deserve, while harnessing Tasmania’s competitive strengths to build a resilient and diverse economy and create more jobs for Tasmanians.
