The City of Casey has welcomed the Victorian Government’s recent commitment to major road upgrades across Melbourne’s south east, describing the announcement as an important step towards addressing congestion and improving connectivity for local communities.
If re-elected, the commitments include funding to duplicate Hallam Road between Pound Road and Princes Highway, and widening Evans Road between Thompsons Road and Central Parkway, delivering additional road capacity, safer intersections and improved walking and cycling connections.
Both upgrades will also improve access to the critical employment precincts in Hallam and Cranbourne West, which will be essential to supporting local jobs as Casey continues to grow.
City of Casey Mayor Cr Michelle Crowther said the announcement reflected what Casey residents have consistently told Council through its Building a Better Casey advocacy campaign: better roads and transport infrastructure are essential to support our fast-growing community.
“We welcome this commitment from the Victorian Government and thank them for recognising the importance of investing in local roads across Melbourne’s south east,” she said.
“As Victoria’s largest and one of its fastest-growing municipalities, Casey residents spend too much time stuck in traffic. Congestion impacts how people get to work, school, appointments, sporting activities and time with family and friends.
“Our community has been clear that better roads and transport infrastructure remain their number one priority. The upgrades to Hallam Road and Evans Road will help improve travel times, increase safety and support the growing number of people who rely on these important transport corridors every day.
“The duplication of Evans Road between Thompsons Road and Central Parkway complements the Australian Government’s 2025 funding commitment to widen Evans Road between Central Parkway and Duff Street. Should funding for this latest announcement be secured, we would support their coordinated planning and delivery to minimise disruption for motorists and residents.”
The City of Casey will continue to advocate for matched commitments from all election candidates to ensure investment in critical transport infrastructure is delivered regardless of election outcomes, to ensure residents can move around the municipality safely, efficiently and reliably as the city continues to grow.
