Independent medical examinations panel review

With the current Independent Medical Examinations (IME) panel arrangement ending on 30 June 2021, WorkCover will advertise for new IME panel members for 2021-2024 through an open tender which will start on 11 January 2021.

The IME panel is a team of medical professionals who provide WorkCover with additional information or clarification on specific medical aspects of a worker’s injury, and/or to provide workers with a permanent impairment assessment.

The IME panel is made up of specialists trained in specific areas of clinical knowledge. The purpose of the IME panel is not to provide treatment, but rather conduct independent medical examinations and then provide a report to WorkCover.

The aim of this tender is to ensure the best possible coverage across all specialties and to continue our commitment to improving services.

WorkCover will provide a simple, streamlined process and engage expert, independent medical practitioners to help us with our panel selection. A standard tender process typically reviews suppliers based on their experience, quality, time and cost – but as cost won’t be evaluated for the IME, applicants can expect experience, quality and time criteria. The actual criteria and questions will not be released until the tender is published. Find more information about responding to Queensland Government tenders.

Applicants are not required to be based in Queensland, however must be willing to travel to Queensland for appointments as required. Specialists will be required to meet minimum mandatory criteria and meet service level standards throughout the contract term if appointed.
