Cairns Regional Council will today (25 July) brief the local construction industry on $52 million worth of water, sewerage and waste projects that will be delivered this financial year.
Mayor Bob Manning said interested Cairns-based businesses and consultants had been invited to attend the annual briefing with the aim of encouraging more local tenderers.
“We want to give our local business the best possible chance to apply for and win competitive tenders for major projects,” Cr Manning said.
“Projects like these are important to our local industry and generate employment.
“This afternoon’s briefing will allow them to go back and consider what projects they might want to tender for and get a head start on the planning process.”
Water and Waste General Manager Mark Wuth said attendees would have the opportunity to ask questions about Council’s projects and tender processes.
“This is an opportunity for networking and building relationships. It allows us to meet with local industry representatives to discuss Council’s upcoming projects and answer any questions they may have,” Mr Wuth said.
“It also provides businesses with an insight into Council’s long term works program, and allows them to adapt their skills base accordingly.”
Budgeted for this financial year is a $5.9 million refit of the Material Recovery Facility, $3.4 million as part of the Smart Water Metres Project, and major upgrades to sewer networks and water main replacement works.
Projects to be advertised via an open tender include the replacement, assessment and remediation of sewage pumping stations, refurbishment of water reservoirs and consultancy works.
