Infestations of Groundsel Bush located during aerial weed inspections

Kempsey Shire Council

Aerial inspection from a helicopter

Aerial weed inspections were carried out last week to locate infestations of high priority weeds in areas across the Kempsey Shire.

From the air, infestations of Groundsel bush were seen quite easily as white flowers cover the weed this time of the year. Several dams where Salvinia had been detected previously were checked and it was pleasing to see landholders taking action to remove these weeds.

Other high priority weeds seen include:

  • Tropical Soda Apple
  • Water Hyacinth
  • Senegal Tea Plant
  • Cockspur Coral Tree

Landholders with infestations will be notified of high priority weeds located on their lands and have a general biosecurity duty to prevent, eliminate or minimise the biosecurity risk posed by weeds.
