The Hills Shire Council has continued to roll out new infrastructure and maintain its parks, sporting fields, playgrounds, local roads and footpaths to ensure residents can continue to use these facilities during lockdown.
In the past month, authorised workers have been working hard on the renewal of Waves Fitness and Aquatic Centre, building the new Balmoral Road Reserve, upgrading Hezlett Road in North Kellyville, constructing a commuter carpark in Junction Road in Winston Hills, as well as transforming Kellyville Memorial Park into a Premier Rugby League facility.
They have also been filling potholes, repairing roads, carrying out drainage works, conducting safety checks on foothpaths and playground equipment, and maintaining and mowing sporting fields and parks in the Shire, including bindii and weed control.
Mayor of The Hills Shire, Dr Michelle Byrne said these vital works were necessary to keep Council parks and playgrounds safe, as well as give residents more open space options and facilities to enjoy.
“The COVID-19 pandemic is really highlighting how important our parks, playgrounds and green spaces are to people,” Mayor Byrne said.
“That’s why we’ve been working hard to continue roll out more of the things that our residents love and enjoy.
“Recently, we completed Stage One of the Alfred Henry Whaling Memorial Reserve Rose Garden upgrade, with a new arbor, concrete pathways and a sandstone area. We also upgraded Worthing Avenue Reserve playground in Castle Hill and opened a new multipurpose half basketball court in South Maroota.
“This is great news for residents who are looking to get outdoors and explore more of their own backyard this spring,” Mayor Byrne added.
Mayor Byrne said she was happy seeing construction continuing on Council’s bigger projects, such as Waves, Balmoral Road Reserve and Junction Road Commuter Carpark.
“These types of projects employ many people across a variety of sectors, including engineers, builders, electricians, plumbers, designers, printers and much more. Keeping people employed and working during the pandemic is a priority and will go a long way to keeping our local and national economies moving, while supporting businesses and families,” she said.
“It also means that residents will soon be able to use these new amenities,” Mayor Byrne added.
